Resoundsound

Echoes from the underground…

Loxy and Resound just announced their new album called Burning Shadows which will be released on Cylon Recordings. Resound talks about this and many more things…

What are you working on at this very moment?

Today I’m working on some dancehall stuff and the mixdowns for Burning Shadows.

Can you tell us something more about Burning Shadows LP?

It’s a collaboration I’m doing with Loxy for Cylon Recordings… According to current plan it’s gonna be 12 tracks released as three EP’s and possibly a CD version as well… We are still working out some of the details so I can’t give you definitive info just yet.

What is the main idea behind Burning Shadows?

We just found ourselves writing a lot of tracks together and we were both really happy with the sound we had started to discover and thought there was quite a special character to it… So we thought we might as well do an album as we already had 6-7 tracks ready to go. Since then we have worked hard on more tracks and refining the concept and sound… Some of the original material is not even gonna make it on there in the end as we have since taken the concept further.

Musically we want to keep things interesting, drawing from our own backgrounds but not being too obvious about things… We really enjoy pushing things forward and discovering new realms so that’s a big part of the album for us. We’ve put a lot of attention on making the album work well as a whole.. So it’s not just a compilation of different tracks put together. There are a lot of different beats in there but there’s a certain edge that unifies it.

How did you link together with Loxy?

We met for the first time at Herbal when I was playing at Therapy a couple of years back. I started sending him some of my works and things just took off from there.

You have your own radio show called Resoundsound on Bassdrive radio. How would you characterize this show of yours? What are the main features?

I play pretty versatile on radio, anything that I’m feeling at the moment really… From straight up vibes to very experimental. There’s lots of material from myself and friends obviously but also lots of stuff producers from all over the world send me. Bassdrive is all about realizing DNB as a global thing and coming from Finland I’m 100% with that of course.

I’ve heard that you worked on some game soundtracks in the past. Can you tell us more?

The biggest work I’ve done was a 30-piece soundtrack for a japanese action game C-21. About half of the tracks on there are DNB and the other half ranges from ambient to techno and freeform downtempo, all composed to fit specific situations. It was quite an interesting project to be a part of… The game is only available in Asia but it’s given me a lot of exposure over there as there has been reportedly as many as 15 million players online!

Any talented but yet unknown producers from Finland you would like to mention here?

There’s a guy called Jontey who’s actually sharing my studio now… Look out for him!

Track of the month?

Seba - Blaze and Fade Out

General plans for the future? What are you up to?

DNB wise the next release hitting the stores will be on Vampire Records very soon… There’s a 8-track Resound project coming out on 13 Music at some point later this year. More releases are lined  up for Headz, Digital Soundboy, Hardware, Function… Loads of collaborations happening… Doing some work with Digital, Gremlinz, Seba, Friske and Skitty and we’ll be keeping busy with Loxy as well. DJ’ing around Europe and UK…
